I DEDICATE THIS SITE TO MY DAD WHO SERVED WITH THE ROYAL NAVY AND TO MY UNCLES WHO SERVED AND DIED WITH THE ROYAL NORFOLK REGIMENT,AND TO THE FORMER, CURRENT AND FUTURE MEMBERS OF THE BLACK WATCH.

NAME: Le Paradis. LOCATION: Pas-de-Calais DATE: May 26th 1940 DESCRIPTION: A company of the Royal Norfolk Regiment, trapped in a cowshed, surrendered to the 2nd Totenkopf Infantry Regiment under the command of 28 year old SS Obersturmfuhrer Fritz Knoechlein. Marched to a group of farm buildings, they were lined up in the meadow along side the barn wall. When the 99 prisoners were in position, two machine guns opened fire killing 97 of them. Two managed to escape, Privates Pooley and O'Callaghan emerged from the slaughter alive. When the SS troops moved on, the two were sheltered by the villagers at Le Paradis. THE OUTCOME: After the war, the massacre was investigated and Knoechlein was traced and arrested. Tried before a War Crimes Court in Hamburg, he was found guilty, and on January 28, 1949, he was hanged.

Black Watch: The Royal Highland Regiment of Montreal, known as the Black Watch, is one of the most famous and prestigious regiments in Canada... Its long and bloody history stretches back to the 1862. In countless battles the Black Watch has been chosen as the regiment to lead the Canadian attack...a tradition that was built on the central philosophy of this regiment... The Black Watch is honor-bound never to retreat...never. In 1939, the Black Watch prepared for war with bayonet practice on the football field of McGill University in Montreal...where many of the men were students. They wore kilts...but the volunteers came from many nationalities...The Scots and Irish were joined by Poles, Ukrainians and Americans. The Watch symbolized the best young men Canada had to offer

 and live in God's Country now, Alberta, that is
 I work as a logistics consultant in the transport industry.

I WAS A MEMBER OF THE BLACK WATCH FROM 1983 UNTIL 1989. I HAD THE HONOUR OF TROOPING THE COLORS FOR THE QUEEN MOTHER ON THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REGIMENT IN CANADA
